ATEX – Certified Machines for Hazardous (Explosive) Areas
Weighing solutions for explosive atmospheres due to the presence of flammable gases, vapours, or dusts
The system features complete electrical bonding and grounding, preventing electrical discharge and eliminating the risk of dangerous spark generation. Designed and manufactured in compliance with the specific requirements of the regulations for ATEX Zone 2/22, these checkweighers can be installed close to high explosion-risk processes, such as aerosol can filling while ensuring excellent weighing performance and meeting the highest safety standards.
The close proximity between the filling operation and the weight-control station, which is strategic for production efficiency, is in fact the main reason why leading companies in these sectors choose to install a checkweigher in an ATEX environment. This allows any anomalies to be detected promptly and corrective action to be taken in real time, preventing the production of large quantities of costly non-conforming product.
Case study
Nemesis checkweighers in aerosol filling production (ATEX 2/22 area)
For a UK-based aerosol contract filler, a conveying, spacing, and dynamic weighing system for spray cans was developed for operation in a potentially explosive atmosphere due to the presence of combustible gases. This solution resolved the customer’s issues caused by a costly and inefficient star-wheel system that failed to weigh accurately and resulted in long machine downtimes during format changeovers. Nemesis’ ATEX solution, featuring infeed timing belts, also allowed the system to be installed parallel to the production line, eliminating the need to interrupt the line in order to integrate the checkweigher.
Main features
Is this what you are looking for?
To ensure greater robustness and resistance to harsh environments, the control panel is housed in a special reinforced frame, made entirely of stainless steel.
The new Lumina HMI represents a modern and user-friendly interface, featuring vertical scrolling of production data and related statistics, similar to the experience on a smartphone or tablet.
Ejectors for explosive atmospheres can only be push-type. The use of air-blast jets that could potentially cause deflagration is not permitted.
Any plastic or rubber component is antistatic, so that rubbing or sliding does not generate sparks or electrostatic discharges.
Several production processes can fall under ATEX zones: in addition to the filling of gaseous products in cosmetics, personal care, and chemical industries, this also includes the processing of cereals and flours, paints, and wood.
The installation of the servo-assisted EasySet feeding belts ensures a stable and secure feeding of cylindrical products, even tall ones.
Completely conductive system
The system has been designed and built to be fully conductive and therefore requires complete grounding in order to prevent the generation of dangerous sparks. All components are manufactured using special conductive materials and are interconnected by dedicated yellow-and-green grounding cables, whose specific purpose is to safely discharge electrical leakage to earth.
Special components compliant with ATEX directive
The machine components and construction materials are certified for use in ATEX zones with explosion risk. They are therefore made from robust materials and advanced technologies to withstand extreme temperatures and harsh environmental conditions. These devices are essential to ensure maximum safety of installations in industrial processes handling flammable materials.
